Byron Clarkson backs up with short-course win after gruelling Iron Man as Amy Wakelam takes out long course

It was a light-on event at the Geraldton Triathlon Club as many competitors were still recovering from the Ironman and Half Iron Man competitions in Busselton last weekend. However, Byron Clarkson coming off a gruelling 10½ hour Iron Man down south took out the short course by more than four minutes in a time of 58:04 ahead of Paul Luxton, who took second with the fastest run leg of anyone, followed by Andrew Blackburn in third. Clarkson’s main rival for much of the season Gerard Grant did not participate in the event after taking third place at the Iron Man competition in a time of 4hr 38min. Amy Wakelam was first overall out of the swim in the long course and continued on strong to take first place in the women’s division, followed by Lisa Keeffe in second. Russell Browne took out first place in men’s long course, which included a 600m swim, 27km ride and 5km run with a time of 1:33. First place in the women’s 300m swim, 17km bike ride and 4km run short-course event was Petrina Wakelam, with Judy Heylon in second place. The enticer course had good numbers again with Jack Ivey having a great race, taking out first place in all three legs of the men’s division with Cooper Omodei and Coby Brown second and third, respectively. The women’s enticer was won by Chloe Spence, with Richelle Giltrap in second place and Jo Marshall third.
