Cancer boost for Geraldton as minister heads to city to announce cash for health initiatives in the region

An extra $1 million in State Government cash will go toward a new radiological oncology unit at the Geraldton Health Campus. The funding announcement was made by Health Infrastructure Minister John Carey held a press conference on Friday at the site of the $188m developments under way at the Geraldton Hospital site. Mr Carey said the main campus works were “still on track” and praised builder Multiplex, saying “construction is really making great progress”. It came as the minister also revealed more detail on the tender to deliver the $19.6 million refurbishment of Mullewa Community Hospital. The tender has been given to WA-owned and operated company EMCO Building, allowing the much-anticipated regional hospital project to move on to the main works stage later this year. “The Mullewa Community Hospital redevelopment will be transformative for local health care, meeting the needs of community now and into the future,” Mr Carey said. “The awarding of this contract allows us to get on with the job of delivering emergency and outpatient support, and access to a range of health services and providers, all under one roof.” The revamped Mullewa hospital will provide 24/7 emergency care, outpatient support, respite, and palliative services. It was also host virtual healthcare technology, aimed at providing greater patient access to specialist care close to home for locals. EMCO is also the builder for the currently underway the $23 million Perth Cultural Centre redevelopment, the Carnarvon Police and Justice Complex and is the early contractor involvement contractor for the Broome Step Up Step Down facility and Renal Hostel projects. It has have also been involved in the construction of commercial buildings, schools, car yards and aged-care facilities.
