Residents across the Mid West will gather on Monday to show their appreciation for Australia’s servicemen and women, with organisers now placing the finishing touches on Anzac Day plans.

Many communities have had to scrap or scale back Anzac Day commemorations for the last two years because of COVID, but RSL sub-branches have confirmed services will proceed as planned in the wake of eased restrictions and falling daily caseloads.

Some events were also hampered by cyclone Seroja last year, but locals in places like Kalbarri, Northampton and Perenjori took a break from cleaning up the wreckage from the storm to pay tribute to Australia’s war veterans.

Kalbarri’s service also sparked controversy when Australian Defence Force members — who had been assisting in the cyclone recovery— were banned from marching in the town’s Anzac Day parade over a uniform issue.

This year, commemorations across the Mid West will include traditional dawn services, veteran marches, wreath-laying ceremonies, and hearty gunfire breakfasts for guests to enjoy.

RSLWA has also partnered with Triple M to provide a live broadcast of the dawn service for those unable to attend events in-person.

The service will go to air on 98.1fm from 5.55am.
