Community ‘jury’ to work on plan for the future for Carnarvon

Carnarvon residents can sit on a “community jury” tasked with developing a plan for the future of the Gascoyne town. Locals were asked to provide feedback about their experiences living and working in Carnarvon, with a survey created by the Shire of Carnarvon asking residents if they thought living conditions had improved or worsened over the last five years, what the strengths of the town were, and what barriers prevented it from reaching its potential. Survey results will now be analysed by leading survey firm Orima, with the research organisation’s findings to be used to inform a “community jury” in creation of a future plan for Carnarvon. The jury — made up of a selection of survey participants and other nominees — will also hear from representatives of Carnarvon Community College and the shire. Shire president Eddie Smith described the jury as a “hinge point” for the new plan. “Everyone has had a chance to be part of this plan for the future through the survey, but the jury will do the hard yards of bringing everything together,” he said. Once selected, jury members will meet over three Sundays to discuss the plan. They will receive $300 for their service.
