Department of Justice to host annual walk along Geraldton foreshore for Reconciliation Week

A walk along the Geraldton foreshore celebrating Reconciliation Week being held by the Department of Justice this Wednesday is open to all members of the Geraldton community.

The Wanarayimanha Walk is organised by the Justice and Community Network Committee and the Department to promote reconciliation and foster positive community engagement.

Wanarayimanha is the Wajarri word for walking together in a group or mob.

The walk will take place from 11am at Rocks Laneway on Marine Terrace, followed by a welcome to country from a representative of the Naajuja people.

Justice and Community Network Committee chairperson and Adult Community Corrections team leader Samantha Harring said the walk perfectly captured the spirit of this year’s Reconciliation Week theme — “Now More Than Ever”.

“It has been a privilege to be a part of the committee and see this event grow in popularity; having the community walk in solidarity with a shared purpose symbolises the importance of working together,” she said.

Participants will walk along the foreshore and circle back to Rocks Laneway for a sausage sizzle and refreshments.

More than 100 people attended last week’s walk in pouring rain. A shower or two is forecast on Wednesday.
