Election promises to fix the growing issue of coastal erosion and build a sorely needed boat ramp have been welcomed by the Drummond Cove Progress Association.

On Friday, shadow regional development minister Steve Thomas arrived in Geraldton to announce a pledge of $1.5 million towards the construction of a boat ramp in Drummond Cove.

This comes on top of an earlier Liberal promise of $3m in reef infrastructure to tackle erosion along the Geraldton coast. Both major parties have now pledged to address the need for a boat ramp and coastal erosion works, meaning no matter who wins the March 13 election, funding has been guaranteed.

Earlier this month, Labor committed $3m for erosion control and a boat ramp, and the Nationals announced a staggering $8.3m for erosion control.

“Decades ago we had a ramp but it was washed away by the ocean,” he said.

“Erosion has been cutting off access to the north and isolated parts of the community.”

“We’ve been advocating with all the political parties for a long period of time and we’re really happy that it seems to be that we’re top of the list.”
