Geraldton Hospital’s auxiliary volunteers were thanked for their community contributions and fundraising, after surpassing the $2 million mark.
Since the grassroots group opened its kiosk at the hospital in 1999, $2 million has been raised and invested back into Geraldton Health Campus.
Formed in 1952, the auxiliary’s hard work, commitment and generosity has led to visible improvements in the building, such as additions to the foyer and gardens and investment in equipment.
Members keep the hospital kiosk running, while also working hard behind the scenes supporting health promotion events, working with local businesses and organising fundraising events.
WA Country Health Service Geraldton district director Cameron Ross thanked the volunteers for their service.
“On behalf of Geraldton Hospital, WA Country Health Service, and the many patients, families, visitors and staff who benefit from your efforts, thank you,” he said.
“Your dedication over more than seven decades has left a legacy, and your continued support remains an invaluable part of our hospital and community.”
The auxiliary has 61 members, including 21 life members who have each given more than 15 years service.
There are 31 members who currently volunteer at the hospital kiosk.
“The auxiliary cannot function without the extraordinary commitment and generosity of its members,” Mr Ross said.
“Time and again, volunteers step up to ensure the kiosk, fundraising activities and community support continue without interruption.”
Next year, the auxiliary will celebrate 75 years of service.
