Geraldton young gun Paige Carslake caps off strong year with international medal

A young soccer star from Geraldton has showcased her skills on the international stage after taking part in a prestigious youth football tournament in Singapore where her side won the bronze medal. Paige Carslake, 16, was selected to participate in the Singa Cup as part of the Western Australia regional girls under-16 side and compete against teams from Australia, Philippines, Thailand, and Singapore in November. Carslake was also captain of the side and was overjoyed at the selection and enjoyed success coming away with this place. The Goldfields regional girls under-16 side played exceptionally to make it into the semifinals after finishing second in their group stage. Tournament winners Lion City Sailors from the host city Singapore managed to end the team’s run with a 5-0 defeat in the semi but WA went on to dominate the game in the third placed play-off. Carslake currently plays for the Abrolhos FC soccer club and aspires to keep pushing on to even higher levels of the game. Her mum, Sarah Carslake could not be prouder of her daughter. “She has worked very hard for this opportunity, Football West provided so much quality training this year with TSP, TSP Tournaments, Country Week and Country Camp,” she said. “We are so grateful and thankful for her coach Mauro Amazzini, who is so supportive and encouraging.”
