Geraldton’s Marine Terrace to be decked in holiday cheer for Christmas celebrations

Geraldton city centre will become a festive wonderland this week. with the annual Christmas on the Terrace markets set to bring the community together for an evening of festive fun — and maybe even a visit from Santa Claus.

Thousands of people are expected to attend this year’s event from 5pm on Thursday, with live music, roving street entertainers, shopping, carol singing and a record number of food vendors setting up on Marine Terrace, bringing Christmas joy to the CBD.

Rocks Laneway will host Christmas in the Laneway, a festival within the festival featuring youth stalls, face painting and creative arts activities.

“The event is one of the highlights of the year and is a fantastic opportunity to kick off the festive season,” mayor Jerry Clune said.

“Christmas on the Terrace is about supporting local businesses, enjoying great entertainment, and creating memories with family and friends.

“Every year, the event gets bigger and better, and this time around will be no exception.”

Mr Clune reminded attendees they could win one of three $100 Buy Local Greater Geraldton gift cards by voting for their favourite festive storefront as part of the Jingle Through Geraldton promotion.

Voting is open and runs until January 5 through the city’s website.

Residents are advised there will be CBD road closures from 5pm to 9pm on Thursday to allow for set-up of the event and safe access for pedestrians. Free parking will be available in the city’s CBD carparks.
