Gerard Grant takes out race two of club championships after blistering bike leg
This week’s triathlon — race two of the Geraldton Triathlon Club Championship — included challenging conditions, with the Geraldton seabreeze in early but with it some cooler temperatures.
The long course was off first with a 600m swim followed by a 27km ride and a 5km run.
Byron Clarkson was first out of the water by a long shot followed by Simon Teakle as they set out on the 27km bike course headed out to Drummonds from Bluff Point.
Gerard Grant put in a great effort on the bike and managed to get back into transition in first place and he continued this form on the run and held on for the win in a time of 1:19:15.

The female race was led from start to finish by Fabiana Ruiz, who made the trip up from Three Springs to compete in the small three women field.
She eased home in a time of 1:27:04 just under five minutes clear of Amy Wakelam, who came through next in second in a time of 1:33:00.
The short course was a 300m swim,17k ride and 4 km run with results featuring some club stalwarts with Andrew Blackburn leading the men’s course with a time of 1:00:49 and Paul Luxton finishing second.
The female course was won by Petrina Wakelam in 1:04:22, with Deb Carlyon putting in a great effort finishing second.
The enticer course was a 250m swim, 7k ride and 2k run. Father/daughter combo Scott and Fina Dethlefsen both had a great day out finishing first in their respective category.
Second place went to young gun Alex Travasso in the men’s and Cassy Newman second in the women’s.
Next week’s triathlon will again be at St Georges Beach with registration at 7.45 am
