It may be summer and flat as a pancake, but two Mid West surf stars have something to froth about.

Geraldton Board Riders competitor Sophie Butcher and Australian under-18 champion Coral Durant, whose home break is the punishing surf of the Gascoyne, were both included in the top 100 groms talent list in Surfing Life magazine.

Editor Ray Bisschop confirmed Sophie came in at No. 27, while Coral was ranked fourth nationally.

Reid Durant, Coral’s dad, said with competitions such as the Surfing Australia junior titles in Stradbroke Island, Queensland called off and replaced by video submissions, she had missed the final cut.

“She blitzed the first round. (Then), she went to the east coast and pretty much got skunked,” missing out on the swell, he said.
