Ugle Fabrications La Fiamma have secured a huge away win over Baldivis FC to firmly put promotion hopes back in view as the Reds have now won three on the bounce. They had put in a fantastic performance against Sutherlands last week but faced a step up in competition against a Baldivis side that has spent much of the season in the upper echelons of the ladder. But their recent form had been patchy, with two heavy losses in a row and conceding seven goals in the process while scoring just two of their own, providing a huge opportunity for the Reds. They had to deal with the most gruelling away slot of a 3pm Sunday kick-off but would have been boosted by the reserves’ win as Bradley Davis scored a hattrick in a 4-1 thumping. Several players had to double up from that game but you wouldn’t know it as they put in a commanding performance as the Reds firmly staked their claim for a top two finish. Kumbirai Dzoma got the opener at the 32-minute mark to break his scoring drought as the Reds took a 1-0 lead into halftime. The second half was tightly contested as Baldivis rang the changes, making four substitutions by the 73rd minute, but it didn’t do them any good as Tom Mitic doubled the lead to all but seal the game. Al Mupotaringa then added the cherry on top of a fine Reds performance with a goal in the 83rd minute, continuing his red hot form after a double last week. Results around the Reds didn’t quite fall their way as in previous weeks but they sit three points out of second place with four games to go and with fixtures against teams above them, their fate is still in their hands. The Reds are finding form at just the right time but their task does not get any easier this week as they face the league-leading Perth AFC, who have not lost all season. But captain Lachlan Gray said “everyone is absolutely buzzing” and if they can maintain their recent form, they may be able to spring a surprise on the leaders.
