Geraldton Athletics Centre competitors Nevaeh Hill and Ella Batten put in the perfect preparation for national-level competition last weekend, going head-to-head and finishing first and second at the local championships.

Nevaeh finished as under-16 champion girl, the highest division of local little athletics, and Ella finished runner-up.

The two are due to travel with the WA squad to compete at the Australian Track and Field Championships in NSW from March 26 to April 3.

They were among the athletes who brought home three gold medals and a silver from the 2022 WA Little Athletics Championships in Perth on the March long weekend.

At that event, Nevaeh won a convincing gold in her favourite event, the 300m hurdles, and won silver in the 90m hurdles.

Ella claimed gold and a massive personal best in the high jump.

Those results added to an under-16s 400m hurdles gold Nevaeh won earlier in 2022, and a State title she has won previously in 200m hurdles.

Club president Phil Hadley said last weekend’s event was a successful end to the season.

“We saw some personal bests, there was awesome sportsmanship and we even had a record broken,” Hadley said.

“You should be so proud of yourselves.

“Keep striving to be the best you can be, and keep that fun and friendship flowing.”

Kaleb Chapman was under-16 champion boy.

Taylah Dean was under-15 champion girl and Tahlia Singleton was runner-up.

In the under-15 boys, Riley Heinrich was champion and Wynand Neethling was runner-up.

In the under-14s, Macey Hadley was champion girl while Logan Kirkland was champion boy.

Dianna Vlavianos was under-13 champion girl and Reuben Chapman was under-13 champion boy.

Nevaeh, Kaleb, Macey, Trey Horobin and Amelia Heinrich all set club records.
