Matt Davis takes King of the Hill win at the Geraldton speedway

More than 1000 spectators packed out the Geraldton City Speedway stands on Saturday night for the eighth annual King of the Hill event.
The feature event for the night was the final race. The sprint cars win was taken out by Geraldton local Matt Davis, who finished with a best lap time of 13.927sec. and saw him crowned King of the Hill.
Closely following Davis was another local Anthony Gaudio and Bunbury’s Chad Pittard rounding out the second and third places on the podium.
With more than 50 nominations, the stakes were high for the anticipated event with competitors travelling from Perth and plenty of fans coming to watch.
A side event was added to the main race which brought added excitement, with the Back of the Hill challenge. It allowed one of the top four qualifiers for the final race the option of starting at the back of the pack.
If they took on the challenge and won the race, their prize would go from $3000 to $10,000, a tempting offer for some of the top competitors, and it was taken on by Joel Ettridge.
But it didn’t prove to work out in Ettridge’s favour as he finished eighth overall in the final race.
The other feature winners on the day were Hayden Thomas in the production sedans, Neville Fisher in the supermods and Jasmin Ellis won the senior Formula F125s.
Juniors had a successful night as well, with Hannah Tomkins winning the junior top stars category, Brax Root was the winner in the junior new stars and Georgia Ellis took out the junior Formula F125s.
