A Mt Magnet long weekend extravaganza, celebrating the ancient rocks and starry skies it is known for, has been given a substantial financial boost.

On Tuesday, Peter Foster MLC presented the Shire with a $14,000 Lotterywest grant to go towards the Astro Rocks festival.

The festival is planned for September 17 and will run for three days, featuring local Indigenous culture, tours, astrophotography activities and science-based art.

“Festivals and cultural events like Astro Rocks Fest enhance the quality of life and wellbeing for locals and tourists alike, which is why the McGowan Government makes sure they are supported through Lotterywest,” Mr Foster said.

“I’m delighted that Mount Magnet’s creativity and innovation has been recognised through this grant.

“I look forward to seeing Astro Rocks Fest go from strength to strength.”
