New winners to be crowned as young field takes on mid-week races at Geraldton Turf Club
It’s an action-packed schedule at the Geraldton Turf Club as mid-week racing returns on Thursday afternoon with seven races scheduled.
Racing kicks off at 3.30pm with the Geraldton Foreshore Handicap with Julia Martin’s Just a Lil Faith heavily favoured with two wins from her last four starts with Westozi the likely only challenger with no other recent winners in the field.
Race two is the first maiden with Escalating the most experienced in the field with 18 race stars, but Scarlet At Tara has placed in 42 per cent of her 12 race starts with a first-time race winner to be crowned in this race.
Another maiden follows in race three with Lead Guitar coming off three straight placings and appearing the best placed to break through for her first win.
Blue Chyenne and Bush Icon are both coming off recent wins in Geraldton and lead the field in race four with the rest of the runners looking likely to settle for minor placings.
Be Seated is the class runner of the field in race five - the only horse with multiple victories in his last 10 starts. Eliminate looks the likely challenger with a worse finish of third place in his last five races.
Race six should be close with Adam Durrant’s My Baby Blue Jean the favourite after returning to the track for the first time in 23 weeks earlier this month, but Dark Peak and Mybak’s experience at the track could prove the difference.
In the final race at 6.30pm, newbies Jeanella, King’s Wech and Wojtek are the front runners with only Greg Spowart’s Mystery Man looking like he can challenge them.
