The North Midlands Netball Association claimed top honours as the Geraldton Netball Association hosted the Mid West Gascoyne Regional Championships at the weekend.

The championships saw a host of teams from across the region compete from mixed 9/10-year-old division all the way through to Masters Divisions across two bumper days of netball action.

Ten teams competed in the top open division, with Northampton A and North Midlands A going undefeated and claiming top spot in their respective pools to set up a blockbuster grand final.

The final lived up to the billing with the two sides going goal for goal through the quarters before North Midlands managed to grab back-to-back goals early in the final quarter.

It was a decisive move as North Midlands claimed the title 20-18, improving on their third-place finish from last year.

The association hailed the massive achievement with their under-12 sides also claiming their division two title over Mount Tarcoola 28-6.

“It was point-for-point the whole game but the defensive pressure to get the ball back and bring it home and the supporting crew hyping the team on the sidelines was amazing,” they said.

“Congratulations to Bec Mills and the team especially to MVP Jayme Tapscott and Players Player Katrina Clayton.

“A special mention to Deborah Bone for being awarded the Mid West Volunteer of the Year award. A massive achievement and we see you and all that you do within the association as well as outside of it.”

Last year’s runners-up Day Dreamers finished in third place while Pumas was the best of the Geraldton teams, taking fourth.

It was an all-Geraldton grand final in the under-16 divisions, but there was no stopping the Pumas who went undefeated throughout the weekend and claimed a dominant grand final win 26-18.

The under-14s divisions was also an all-local affair with the Falcons dominating the Lightning 20-5 in the final, bouncing back from a tight three-goal loss to Lightning on day one.

Kazuals took out the under-12s division one title in a perfect weekend, winning all five games en route to a 39-13 win over Allendale in the final.

In the mixed 9/10-year-olds division, St Francis dominated with a 6-0 record and were the only team to score more than 20 goals, which they did in all of their matches.
