A 24-year-old man has died and a 21-year-old man has been seriously injured after their four-wheel drive rolled down sand dunes near Green Head yesterday afternoon.

About 2.30pm the two men were driving in the sand dune area, about 5km south of the Mid West town, when they drove over the top of a dune into a deep decline about 30m high.

Police said the Nissan Patrol appears to have landed or become dug into the dune about half way down, causing it to roll onto its roof.

The vehicle came to a rest at the bottom of the decline where members of the public pulled the 21-year-old passenger from the wreckage.

They were unable to assist the 24-year-old driver, who died at the scene.

Leeman Police, Jurien Bay Police and St John Ambulance attended the scene.

The passenger was flown to Royal Perth Hospital by the RAC Rescue Helicopter.

The vehicle has been seized for further examination by the Major Crash Investigation Section.

Anyone who has information about the crash and hasn’t spoken to police are asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report online at www.crimestopperswa.com.au.
