Police charge 17yo Geraldton boy with string of offences after two pursuits in stolen car end outside Perth

A teenage boy is accused of stealing a car in Geraldton, using it in a crime spree and then sparking two police pursuits on the way to Perth before he was arrested when he ran out of petrol. A 17-year-old has been charged with a string of offences that occurred between Saturday and Monday. Police say a white Toyota Kluger was stolen from a home in Rangeway on Saturday and later identified as being involved in burglary and robbery offences in Waggrakine, Cataby and Warradarge. Police spotted the vehicle about 6.15am on Monday on Brand Highway in Badgingarra, activating their lights and sirens. It is alleged the driver failed to stop and police gave chase. Police on the ground tracked the vehicle for a short distance on Brand Highway before the pursuit was ended. Then about 7.40am, officers again spotted the vehicle on Great Northern Highway in Upper Swan, again using their lights and sirens to signal for the driver to stop. Police allege the driver again failed to stop, sparking a second pursuit, and drove recklessly and at speed along Great Northern Highway before coming to stop when the vehicle ran out of petrol. The 17-year-old boy from Rangeway was arrested at the scene and charged with 12 offences, including one count of steal motor vehicle and drive recklessly, two counts each of aggravated failure to stop, reckless driving to escape pursuit by police, aggravated burglary, no authority to drive and three counts of stealing. He was due to appear in Perth Children’s Court on Tuesday.
