Police investigating Webberton motorcycle store’s third burglary this year

Police are appealing for the public’s help to identify a green Kawasaki motorbike stolen from a Webberton motorcycle store, which has been targeted for the third time this year. On Monday, police say a potential suspect was admitted to hospital but was too intoxicated to interview. The motorcycle store was broken into on Saturday, June 25 about 4.30am. Police allege the suspect cut a hole in the northern side of Sun City Motorcycles’ fence and smashed a window to gain entry. Geraldton police officer-in-charge Sen. Sgt Chris Martin said while inside the property, the suspect cut through a padlock with an angle grinder to steal the motorbike. He said the motorbike was kickstarted and the suspect drove it away. “We try extensively to prevent the theft of these items, but despite all efforts motorcycles continue to be desirable items for criminals,” Sen. Sgt Martin said. Sen. Sgt Martin said a patient was admitted into hospital with injuries consistent with falling off a motorbike — but was too intoxicated to understand his rights — and police were unable to conduct an interview. “This person received gravel rash to the face, but was too intoxicated to make any sense out of it,” he said. A Sun City Motorcycles spokesperson said it wasn’t unusual for their store to be targeted, and they weren’t the only stores being “hit”. One of the issues, he said, was the time it took for security to arrive in the outer suburbs. “Obviously something needs to be done about it, whether they (police) patrol the area during the night,” he said. “This is the third time in a few months. “At the end of the day, you can only do so much, you spend all this money you don’t need to spend.” The spokesperson said the stolen bike was refuelled because it had been sold and was awaiting pick-up, and was worth about $1000. Police have not yet recovered the stolen two-wheeler Kawasaki motorbike, and have appealed to the community to contact the station if they notice a green bike matching that description.
