Promotion dreams over for La Fiamma after six-goal drubbing at hands of Cracovia

La Fiamma’s promotion dreams are officially over after a drubbing at the hands of Cracovia FC in their last away match on Sunday afternoon. Needing a win to keep any hopes alive, they could not stop Cracovia from registering their eighth win with an 8-2 victory on a harrowing afternoon. This game was huge for both sides as both were in the chase for second place with Forrestfield losing 1-0 to Baldivis opening up the draw for both sides. A Cracovia win would have seen them leap into the second spot while a win for the Reds would see them two points behind Forrestfield, who they play this weekend. Both teams had been in good form with the Reds unbeaten in five while Cracovia had won their last seven matches, scoring 27 goals in the process. The Reds would need their defence to be on alert which has been prone to giving up goals at times throughout the season though they have been miserly lately conceding just twice in the past five. But unfortunately, they fell apart at a critical time, coughing up eight goals as Leigh Morgan stunned the Reds with five goals. After an even opening Morgan would get his first in the 26th minute before Peter Todd added a second six minutes later and when Tomas Despotovski had a third in the 41st minute it looked like the game was done. Al Mupotaringa gave the Reds a much-needed lifeline with his goal just before the end of the half as they trailed 3-1 at the break. Any thoughts of a comeback were ended immediately upon the resumption as Morgan had his second inside the first two minutes to officially snuff out the flicker of hope remaining for the Reds. He completed his hat-trick in the 57th-minute mark and three minutes later had a fourth. His fifth came in the 79th minute to cap off a truly outstanding display before he was subbed off in the 84th minute much to the relief of the Reds defence. Kumbirai Dzoma had a consolation in the 81st minute but the Reds would be denied even that small crumb of comfort as Aiden Casella added the eighth goal in the final minutes. It was a hugely disappointing display with so much on the line but Morgan was on fire and Cracovia now have their promotion fate in their own hands. The reserves clash was also another drubbing as they lost 5-0 in a dirty day for the Reds. Trailing 1-0 at the half Cracoviam scored four goals in 15 minutes of madness which also saw the Reds goalkeeper Karim Momand shown a straight red card. La Fiamma will be hoping to finish the season on a high against Forrestfield this Saturday night.
