Racing season is officially open with Geraldton Turf Club to hold its first event on Wednesday

Riders will hit the turf as the racing season returns in earnest at the Geraldton Turf Club. After a lengthy off-season, the first mid-week race event will get under way on Wednesday with seven races scheduled to open the spring racing season. Geraldton Turf Club manager David Wrensted said it was great to be back. “We always look forward to the return of racing, it’s quite a long off-season and I’m sure all the jockeys and trainers are keen to get back out there racing,” he said. “We’ve had a lot of rain over the past months ... the turf has come up really well and a bit of sun around will help to firm it up.” The race day will serve as an appetiser with the ever-popular Ladies Day not far away taking place on October 8. “It’s school holidays so we hope we get a few numbers through tomorrow but it will serve as a good build-up to Ladies Day which is always a fantastic event.” Gates will open at midday with the first race scheduled at 1.49pm.
