Shire of Carnarvon approves demolition of homes too damaged for human habitation

The wrecking ball looms large for two Carnarvon homes which have sustained damage to the point of no longer being suitable for human habitation. The Shire of Carnarvon has approved the demolition of two properties, which were identified as unfit and unsafe late last year. Orders have been issued for the structures to be boarded up within 14 days and demolished within 60 days. The respective owners of the houses can respond to the Shire’s orders with intentions to repair the property, which the Shire may allow as an alternative to demolition. This process allows the owners to decide on repairs to the house, which the Shire will need to agree to before any repair works can proceed. Shire president Eddie Smith said council was committed to working with the property owners to achieve a resolution. “We have a duty to ensure housing within the Shire meets health and amenity standards for both occupants and the community,” he said.
