Shire of Carnarvon secure $174,000 State Government grant to develop art opportunities

The Shire of Carnarvon has received $174,000 from the State Government to help support the art landscape. The shire applied for the funding in February and was approved through the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries under the Regional Art Venues Support program. This funding will be used over the next three years to hire an art gallery development officer and provide professional development opportunities for local and talented regional artists. The goal is to create a locally curated exhibition that can be toured, showcasing the vibrant artistic talents of the Carnarvon community. It equates to a $58,000 payment to the shire each year. “We are dedicated to supporting our local artists and bringing more cultural experiences to the community,” a shire spokesperson said. The funding is an outcome of the shire’s strategic community plan, which aims to foster cultural and artistic growth in the region. The City of Greater Geraldton secured funding through the same initiative which will see three grants of $50,000 awarded to the city for three years to help operate the Geraldton Regional Art Gallery.
