Shocking near miss and crash on Mid West highways, one man facing dangerous driving charge

Police are investigating two dangerous driving incidents on Mid West highways last week, including a serious near-miss on Indian Ocean Drive near Jurien Bay captured on video.

Jurien Bay police are appealing for information after an incident on Wednesday, October 1, involving a white Tesla sedan on Indian Ocean Drive near Sandy Cape Road.

It is alleged that about 4.20pm, the Tesla attempted to overtake another vehicle and a truck, forcing oncoming traffic to swerve to avoid a head-on collision.

A 28-year-old man, who is an international visitor to WA, has been charged with one count of dangerous driving.

In a separate incident, officers from Dongara police are seeking information following a crash on Brand Highway, about 3km north of Seven Mile Road, on Sunday, October 5.

Police said that about 7pm, a red LDV utility was travelling north towards Geraldton when the driver was forced off the road while attempting to avoid a white SUV heading south towards Dongara. The utility rolled and struck a tree.

Emergency services attended the scene, and the driver along with two passengers were taken to Geraldton Regional Hospital with minor injuries.

Both incidents come after a horror year on WA roads, with 144 people losing their lives as of October 4 — 74 of those on regional roads.
