The family of missing Mundaring man John Frylinck have not given up hope of finding him safe — despite his mystery disappearance stretching into a fourth day.

The 70-year-old was last seen Thursday evening at the Mundaring Sculpture Park near Jacoby Street in Mundaring, following a walk with his wife.

With the area in darkness due to the recent power cuts that have beset WA, Mr Frylinck walked away from his wife Diana as she tended to their dog.

She has not seen him since.

The mysterious vanishing has prompted a massive search effort from WA Police and SES volunteers, who have come from as far as Mandurah to help with the hunt.

Mounted police, drones and significant police manpower are also still on the ground searching for Mr Frylinck.

And even as more SES searchers mustered, Mrs Frylinck and her son Jonathan publicly thanked them for their efforts while still holding out hope he would be found.

“We are anxious, still hopeful and very grateful for the help we have been given — when he comes back, he is a million-dollar man; they have thrown so much at him,” Mrs Frylinck said.

“It was not a split second; it was actually about half an hour when I realised something was wrong.

“He has just wandered away, and it was absolutely unforeseen.”

Another potential sighting of Mr Frylinck on Friday morning, around 600 metres from the park, has focused search efforts in a 1.5km radius outwards of both spots.

Mrs Frylinck said the lack of lights in the area was “really disorienting”.

“The storm has been absolutely devastating; it was like a tornado,” she said.

Both Mr Frylinck’s children have been searching for him in the past few days.

“We just want to appeal to the public to keep their eyes open for him,” Mr Frylinck’s son said.

“The photos in the media are very accurate as to what my father looks like; he might not ask for help.”

Mr Frylinck is 180 cm tall, has a slim build, grey hair and a moustache, and wears prescription glasses. He was last seen wearing green boxer shorts with Christmas patterns, a multi-striped shirt and sandals.
