One worker is dead and another is in hospital with serious injuries after a crash at a Queensland mine.
The two were working at the BMA-owned Peak Downs mine near Moranbah in central Queensland when the incident happened.
It is understood that a light vehicle was struck by a giant mining truck just after 4.30am on Friday morning.
One worker was trapped inside the vehicle and died at the scene.
A second person inside the vehicle was taken to hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries, including chest pain and leg injuries.
Resources Health and Safety Queensland chief executive Claire Cooper said investigators were sent to the mine.
“A worker has died, and another has been injured in a serious incident that occurred at a Central Queensland coal mine earlier today,” she said, as published by The Courier Mail.
“RSHQ has deployed investigators and coal inspectors to site and is working closely with Queensland Police Service and Queensland Ambulance Service to respond to the incident.
“Our thoughts are with the worker’s family, friends and colleagues during this difficult time.”
The Peak Downs mine was opened in 1972 and is an open-pit coal mine.
