An EOI to transfer shire-run Narrogin Regional Homecare services to an external provider is open to the public

The decision to transfer Narrogin’s shire-run home care services to an external provider has been put to the public, with the council floating the idea in the wake of new Acts and regulations. An expression of interest to transfer Narrogin Regional Homecare Services to an external operator was resolved at the Shire of Narrogin’s ordinary council meeting on September 24. Shire president Leigh Ballard said under the new Aged Care Act 2024 and the Support at Home Program, heightened regulation requirements, funding changes, and an increased service demand, the council surmised a third-party vendor would better suit the shifting environment. Cr Ballard said if enacted, the transition would be seamless, and with full continuity of service and the provider must have a committed local presence and employment. “If a suitable external provider is identified, it could bring enhanced expertise, investment, and stability, ensuring that our residents continue receiving the best possible care as the Commonwealth’s aged care reforms come into effect later this year,” he said. “It may also reduce the compliance and administrative burden on the shire, freeing up local resources while ensuring the service remains strong, modern, and responsive. “The EOI is about planning ahead responsibly to ensure the service can thrive in that new environment.” The service has been managed by the shire since 1986 and supports a client base of about 138. Cr Ballard said the council acknowledged a change could cause uncertainty and concern but a transfer of hands would only occur if there was strong evidence it would benefit clients, staff and community. “At the heart of all this is our commitment to caring for people — those who rely on us now and those who will in the future,” he said. “We want to make sure that Narrogin remains a place where people can age with dignity, independence, and connection.” The EOI will close on November 25 at 5pm.
