An underage driver has died after the ute he was driving rolled in northern NSW.

The 11-year-old boy was driving along Girraween Rd in Graman, 50km northwest of Inverell, when the ute left the road and rolled about 11.05am on Thursday.

He was treated by paramedics but couldn’t be saved.

Another 11-year-old boy who was in the passenger seat was airlifted to Lismore Base Hospital in a serious condition.

A crime scene has been established and police have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the crash.

The vehicle has been seized for forensic examination, and a report will be prepared for the coroner.
