Churchlands Senior High School parents, students ‘horrified’ by brutal Stirling Train Station attack which left 20-year-old victim fighting for life

Parents and students of the Perth school attended by the gang allegedly behind Thursday’s cowardly train station bashing say they are “horrified” by the attack The 20-year-old victim was allegedly set upon by five Churchlands Senior High School students at the Stirling Train Station on Thursday afternoon - leaving him in an induced coma - in a brutal incident that shocked Perth. Churchlands mum Lisa Jarosz said the attack was a serious concern for parents like herself and a far cry from the welcome she and her daughter Kay - a brand new student at Churchlands - had hoped for. “It’s definitely a shock. I’ve got a daughter so we try to do what we can as parents. High school is hard enough as it is, so it is very concerning,” she told The West Australian while picking up her daughter and her friend. “My hope is that Churchlands will take it seriously and the boys that are involved will face consequences that will ultimately, for lack of a better word, scare them and teach them that we don’t treat people like this.” Ms Jarosz said she had yet to receive any sort of correspondence from the school about the incidence but had also not checked her emails yet. “I’m sure they will correspond with parents. I’ve been happy so far with their communication, but we’ve also only been here for two weeks,” she said. “I have all confidence in the school and that they will handle this well.” A 13-year-old student who was at Stirling Train Station only two hours after the horror assault unfolded said violence was a “problem at this school sometimes”, adding that there had been a fight between two Year 10 students on campus on Wednesday. “There’s quite a few fights, but I still feel pretty safe,” she said. The Year 8 student took the same bus, route 998, less than two hours after the group of teenagers had. “My dad was really worried because he doesn’t really like us taking the train as it is, so this has made that really stressful for him.” A Year 11 student said she knew who the boys behind the alleged attack were, calling them “just another bad batch of kids”. “Every year there’s one group like that. They’re pretty well known, they have a reputation,” she said. The girl told The West Australian the oldest members of the group had been in a free period for “workplace” at the time the alleged assault happened. A father of two said he could not understand “what would have possessed five boys to attack someone like that”. “It’s horrifying. Everything my kids have previously told me suggests this is a really good school,” Mike said. “They’re not bullied, they love their teachers and their school, so this just doesn’t make sense to me. “I’m horrified. It’s awful.” But Karen Bronte, whose three daughters are all students at Churchlands Senior High School, said she was not worried about violence at the school. “I don’t think there’s any more (violence) than at any other schools, obviously there’s fights,” she said. “But nothing that concerns me more than my own high school days. I’ve never been worried about my daughters coming to school.”
