Woman struck by bus critically injured as major emergency response unfolds in Perth

A woman was struck by a bus in Perth, triggering a major emergency response on Monday morning.

Crews were called to West Perth just after 7am following reports a woman in her 40s was hit at the intersection of Kings Park Road and Havelock Street.

Four crews from St John Ambulance rushed to the scene, with the critically injured woman raced to Royal Perth Hospital under lights and sirens.

She remains in ICU in a critical condition on Monday afternoon.

While just one patient needed treatment, four ambulance crews were deployed as per standard protocol to specific injuries reported when the incident is called in.

A St John spokesperson said the volume of crews was in response to the way certain questions were answered in the call.

Police were also at the scene of the crash.

A purple CAT bus number 6 on the Elizabeth Quay/QEII Medical Centre route was seen at the scene.

Police were seen examining the front door of the bus, with officers appearing to work off documents inside the vehicle.

A fire crew that arrived just after 8am used a hose to spray down part of Kings Park Road, near where traffic turns left into Havelock Street.

A TransPerth driver wearing high-vis drove the bus from the scene just after 8.15am.

Kings Park Road travelling east was temporarily closed by emergency services, with police in the area advising pedestrians to keep their distance.

The road has since reopened, allowing banked up peak hour traffic to flow freely through the area.

Deputy Premier Rita Saffioti told reporters Monday her thoughts are with the woman’s loved ones

“Confirming that a Transperth bus struck a woman this morning in West Perth, we don’t have any further updates about her condition,” she said.

“My thoughts go to her family and friends at this very tragic time, it was a tragic incident and police are now investigating.”
