Police investigating the alleged bashing murder of an elderly man in his Sydney home last year are hoping a luxury car spotted near the scene will lead to a breakthrough.

Kalim Saliba, 86, died after allegedly being assaulted by two men who forced entry into his Cherrybrook home about 12.30am on April 29 last year.

His 83-year-old wife also suffered head injuries during the brutal attack.

Despite efforts to revive him, Mr Saliba died at Westmead Hospital due to head injuries sustained during the assault.

NSW Police launched Strike Force McCleery and have spent months combing over CCTV footage around the Tallowwood Ave home.

Police of Sunday released images of a grey Audi TT RS, which was seen in the area immediately prior to and after the alleged murder.

They have launched a public appeal for information, describing the Audi as a vehicle of interest.

“Over the last 18 months, investigators have worked tirelessly to locate the Audi, which we believe was used in this heinous crime, and we’re now asking for public assistance in the hope someone may recognise it,” Homicide Squad Commander Detective Superintendent Daniel Doherty said.

“This is a luxury, high-performance car and we believe it would’ve been noticeable to residents and others in the Cherrybrook area late at night when the violent murder of Mr Saliba took place.

“I urge anyone who recognises this vehicle, or who may have information about its owner or current location, to contact police.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
