Police sweep up thousands of empty bullet casings at intersection of Guildford Road and First Avenue, Maylands

WA Police officers have been seen sweeping up thousands of empty bullet casings on a major road in Perth’s eastern suburbs.
Almost a dozen officers and contractors were spotted clearing the bizarre debris using dustpans and brooms at the intersection of Guildford Road and First Avenue in Maylands about 10am on Friday.
It is believed the casings were inside an unmarked police vehicle when the spill happened, scattering the shells across the road and median strip at the busy intersection.
Police were seen diverting traffic as it took almost an hour for the casings to be cleared and carted away.
