WA Health has issued a fresh measles warning after identifying a busy emergency department as the latest exposure site.

Visitors to the Fiona Stanley Hospital emergency department on Monday night between 6.50pm and 10.05pm have been told to monitor for any symptoms up to 18 days after possible exposure.

“The site is linked to the most recent confirmed case in a returned traveller from Bali,” the alert said.

It follows Thursday’s public health alert about the State’s first case of the year, with a handful of exposure sites identified, including retail outlets and a pharmacy.

Measles is a highly infectious virus, which typically develops after about 10 days.

Symptoms include fever, fatigue, runny nose, sore eyes and a cough, followed by a red blotchy rash that appears three or four days later. The rash starts on the face before spreading to the rest of the body.

WA had its worst measles caseload in 30 years last year with a total 63 cases after clusters in the South West, Pilbara and throughout the metro area.

Health authorities are urging people to check their vaccination status to ensure they are up to date with a measles-containing vaccine.
