Bunnings Newstead evacuated as police operation unfolds: Brisbane motorists and pedestrians told to avoid area

An inner-city Bunnings Warehouse store has been evacuated after a bomb threat was reported.

The Newstead store in Brisbane was evacuated around 8.35am on Tuesday after police arrived.

“Officers attended at 8:35am and as a precaution, evacuated the building while sweeps of the facility took place,” a Queensland Police spokesperson said.

The store, located on Breakdast Creek Road, is part of a shopping complex alongside other businesses, including a Petbarn.

Police were seen blocking off some roads near the store and have reportedly told motorists and pedestrians to avoid the area.

Following the sweep, Queensland Police said they had not located an item to suggest there was a threat to the public.

“No suspicious items were located and there is no further information to indicate there is a threat to the public,” the spokesperson said in an update after 10.30am.

The multi-level Newstead Bunnings opened in 2019.

Roads and the store are reopening, police said.
