Queensland Police declare emergency after finding ‘suspicious device’ on Peregian Beach

Queensland Police have “safely detonated” a device that force them to make an emergency declaration to close a popular Sunshine Coast beach.

The declaration was made at 12.30pm.

An exclusion zone was put in place for the beach, which is located about two hours north of Brisbane in the Sunshine Coast region.

A few hours later, Queensland Police revoked the emergency declaration made under the Public Safety Preservation Act.

“The device has been safely detonated and there is no treat to community safety,” police said in a statement.

“Police thank the public for their co-operation.”

The exclusion zone encompassed David Low Way from Podargus Parade to Woodland Drive, and including Martin St, Avocet St, Peregian Esp, Parakeet Cres, Egrer St, Teal St, Currawong Cres, Osprey Ave, Tern St, Garnet St, Ibis St, Pelican St and Kingfisher Drive.

Members of the public were also advised to avoid the area.
