AFL Mid West round wrap: Judd McVee notches up career-high disposals in two-point thriller against Adelaide

Geraldton’s Judd McVee produced an outstanding game for the Dockers, notching up a career-high 23 disposals during a Good Friday classic against Adelaide. The Dockers scraped over the line by two points, courtesy of a game-saving Alex Pearce smother, with the back line holding firm under relentless fire from the Crows. After Fremantle led by as much as 34 points in the third term, the Crows ate into the deficit and took a 10-point lead during the final quarter. But the Dockers fought back, then held on to claim a 11.10 (76) to 11.12 (78) victory at Adelaide Oval. McVee held firm down back with 23 touches and seven intercepts to be among Fremantle’s best, while Dongara’s Jaeger O’Meara had 10 disposals. Sydney handed a young West Coast outfit a brutal 128-point shellacking and ugly reality check in front of a packed Optus Stadium on Saturday night. Fresh off a 16-day break, it was pure four-quarter domination from the Swans, who set the tone early through booting the first 11 majors of the game, with the final score reading 4.11 (35) to 24.19 (163). Although Sydney had 13 different goal scorers, Coorow-Latham’s Logan McDonald surprisingly was not among them, but he did pitch in with 10 disposals, six marks and two goal assists. Down the other end, Northampton’s Jamie Cripps, like many of his teammates, was far from his best, going goalless with nine disposals, one tackle and a mark. Another victory slipped through Carlton’s fingers as their trend of second-half fade-outs continued in the Good Friday clash with North Melbourne at Marvel Stadium. The Blues were leading at three-quarter-time, but conceded seven goals to two in the final term, leading to a 14.12 (96) to 13.8 (86) loss. Carlton captain, Northampton’s Patrick Cripps, did what he could do lift his side, finishing with 21 disposals, four tackles and seven clearances. Tasmania continued their perfect run in the VFL with a 78-point thrashing against Frankston in their maiden away game. Geraldton’s Jed Hagan featured with two goals, 19 touches and five marks. St Kilda’s Geraldton pair of Liam Ryan and Jack Carroll had a bye. At the time of print, Geraldton’s Jack Martin had not played, with Geelong set to face Hawthorn for the Easter Monday clash at the MCG.
