People of all abilities who are keen for a challenge are encouraged to grab their friends, family or colleagues to compete in a fun community triathlon.

More than 20 teams have already registered for the Northern Star Resources Community Triathlon, hosted by Kalgoorlie Triathlon Club, which features a 300m swim, 9km bicycle ride, and a 3km run.

Teams are made up of two to three people who will compete in one or two of the legs.

The winning team in the men’s, women’s and mixed divisions will have their names engraved on a trophy and be awarded food and drink vouchers.

Vouchers are also up for grabs for the teams that place second and third.

Club president Christina Petz said the community event was a “really fun atmosphere” and encouraged more people to register as it would be a rewarding experience.

“The thrill of finishing a triathlon is being able to say that you are a triathlete,” she said.

“You can spend the rest of the day knowing that you’ve done as much as you can.”

People still have time to register for the event online at kalgoorlietriclub.com.au.

The race will start at 8am on Sunday at the Goldfields Oasis, with supporters and spectators invited to show their support.
