Police allege a good Samaritan had his head stamped on after a woman fighting with her de facto partner at a Dongara motel sought help from a nearby room.

A 52-year-old man needs surgery in Perth for the injuries he sustained in the alleged attack.

It is alleged that on Saturday about 9.20pm an argument between the couple in their 30s escalated while they were staying at the Old Mill Motel in Dongara.

Acting Insp. Bruce McDonald said a woman sought help from a 52-year-old man who was staying in another room close by at the motel.
