Croquet star Kay Chynoweth & Bob Imray back among the wins as season starts

Kay Chynoweth has done it again.

The award-winning croquet star and her playing partner Bob Imray were the winners last weekend at Geraldton Croquet Club’s first two days of play for the season.

The pair took the weekend with five wins, two losses and plus 12 net hoops.

They beat Paul Christmass, currently the club’s top-ranked player, and his partner Sheryl Chant.

The pair had the same win-loss record but a lower plus nine hoops.

Sandra Toomey and Doug Lee were third.

All of the pairs had at least two losses in a competitive round of play.

Christmass was a convincing winner of the club’s 2021 golf croquet championships.

He won 10 of his 11 matches at a great Geraldton tournament for all competitors that featured some close games.

Chynoweth is a longstanding legend of the local game and should run Christmass close this season.

She was Crothers Construction senior sports star of the year at the 2017 Geraldton Guardian Mid West Sports Awards.

The award came after Chynoweth featured in WA’s breakthrough golf croquet win at the Australian Golf Croquet Interstate Shield titles that year.

Chynoweth moved from South Australia to WA in 2000 with husband Colin, who began a stint of State croquet coaching.

Chynoweth took up croquet in 2003 and by 2007 she had been selected to represent WA.

The pair moved back to SA between 2009 and 2013, returning to WA and settling in Geraldton.

A seasoned campaigner, Chynoweth works hard locally to promote croquet as a player, coach and promotions officer.

She has enjoyed a fair bit of success in bringing the game to younger players, with Geraldton junior players regularly turning in impressive results at high-level competitions.
