Environmental issues and sporting support in focus for Bunbury council gearing up to tackle AGM motions

The City of Bunbury council is set to take to the chambers on February 24 with mayor Jaysen Miguel promising to tackle motions moved in the December annual electors’ meeting. Some key items to look out for in the second hit out of the new year is the council’s response to a request to submit a formal complaint to the State and Federal governments about the proposed offshore wind farms affecting the Bunbury region. Councillors will have the option to vote on the executive recommendation to follow through with the motion and liaise with the State and Federal governments on any future development. The council is also set to provide the Bunbury and Districts Hockey Association with a $362,250 loan to be paid over five years, and match it with a contribution from the 2026-27 budget, due to the now six-year-old turf needing replacement. A motion to develop a pedestrian crosswalk on Strickland Street, linking Woodstock West Village to the Bunbury Forum precinct, is set to be shot down, with the executive recommendation suggesting an upgrade to the existing Strickland Street crossing to a zebra crossing. Councillors are also set to vote on a plan to have soap dispensers installed in public toilet blocks over a five year period after Kim Chidgzey’s motion was carried at the electors’meeting. The council is set to meet at 5.30pm on Tuesday at the Bunbury Municipal Council building.
