Geraldton Detectives charge woman, 38, with possessing methamphetamine, allegedly concealed in menstrual cup

A woman has faced court after police arrested her after it’s alleged she had removed 42g of methamphetamine, with a street value worth more than $150,000, from inside her body. Police say the alleged drugs were wrapped in black plastic inside a menstrual cup. On Sunday, Geraldton detectives allege a Toyota Corolla sedan, which 38-year-old Danielle Blanchard from Woorree was a back seat passenger in, was pulled over by police on Brand Highway, 20km south of Dongara. Acting officer-in-charge Detective Sergeant Simon Harrison said police arrested Ms Blanchard on suspicion of possessing a prohibited drug with intent to sell or supply. Det. Sgt Harrison confirmed the woman was known to police and they had reason to take her to the hospital for a forensic procedure. “As a result she was conveyed to Geraldton Regional Hospital for an examination,” he said. Detectives said they waited and spoke with Ms Blanchard for more than three hours before eventually retrieving the item. She also underwent an X-ray, police allege. Det Sgt Harrison alleged Ms Blanchard eventually produced a menstrual cup from inside her body wrapped in black plastic. “Investigation revealed the accused concealed prohibited drugs namely methamphetamine on her person,” Det. Sgt Harrison said. “An examination of the package identified a substance believed to be methamphetamine with a weight of approximately 42 grams.” The estimated street value of the seized drugs was more than $150,000. Det. Sgt Harrison said removing drugs off the street was a fantastic outcome for Geraldton detectives. “(Drugs) are drivers of alcohol, crime and mental health. If we can get the drugs off the streets it makes our job easier,” he said. The 38-year-old was charged with possession of prohibited drugs with intent to sell and faced Geraldton Magistrates Court on Monday, and was released on bail. Ms Blanchard is due to reappear in court on October 31.
