Geraldton Detectives continue to investigate theft of seven guns during Utakarra home burglary

A cache of seven firearms stolen from a gun safe during a Utakarra home burglary on Thursday remains missing in the community several days later.
Geraldton detectives issued an urgent public alert about the stolen firearms on Friday, describing it as a “priority” incident.
On Monday morning, Geraldton Detectives OIC Sen. Sgt Bruce McDonald confirmed there were no updates to the investigation and the guns were yet to be found.
“There are a couple of shotguns and the rest are rifles,” he said.
“We’re putting a lot of resources into it, but we are calling for the public to help out. We are concerned firearms are out there and want to get them off the street as quickly as possible.”
Police say between midnight and 12.30pm last Thursday a home on Woodman Street in Utakarra was broken into and “unknown persons” forced open a gun safe and stole the firearms.
At this stage, detectives have not released a description of the persons involved, or confirmed whether any ammunition was stolen.
“Detectives are now conducting extensive investigation into the whereabouts of persons involved and the location of the firearms,” a WA Police spokesperson said.
Geraldton Detectives urge anyone with information or CCTV footage in the Utakarra area to contact Crime Stoppers via 1800 333 000, or report online at www.crimestopperswa.com.au.
“We’re calling for witnesses and anyone with information, anyone with dashcam footage or knowledge. You can remain anonymous by reporting to Crime Stoppers,” Det. Sen Sgt McDonald said.
