Geraldton police allegedly spat at twice by man who was kicked out of Wintersun Hotel

A man has been charged after he allegedly spat on two police officers when he was asked to move on following being kicked out of Geraldton pub for causing a disturbance. Geraldton Police attended a call-out early on Friday morning after a bar fight broke out on the dance floor inside the Wintersun Hotel on Chapman Road. A 57-year-old man was approached by police and he then allegedly spat on one of the officer’s face. Officer in charge Sen. Sgt Chris Martin said he will allege Willy John Benson Goulton was heavily intoxicated while present at the scene. “He was asked to leave by staff at the bar after a fight broke out,” he said. Sen. Sgt Martin said there was a physical altercation on the dancefloor and the accused was removed. “The bar staff contacted police,” he said. “The man continued to act disorderly, charging at an ambulance . . . driving towards the scene and he was arrested by police. “During the arrest he spat in the police officer’s face and was taken to the police lock-up.” Sen. Sgt Martin said while back at the station, the man allegedly spat in another police officer’s face. Mr Goulton has been charged with two counts of assault a police officer and disorderly conduct. He faced court on Friday and was granted bail to reappear on July 21.
