Geraldton police volume crime two-week operation results in 90 charges in less than a week

An operation by Geraldton police targeting theft and burglaries has resulted in 90 charges and 60 arrests since Monday. Acting OIC Senior Sergeant Jamie Boryczewski said police had had “fantastic results thus far” from the two-week operation. From Monday, February 20, to Thursday morning, Geraldton police arrested 60 people, a mixture of adults and juveniles, and laid 90 charges. The charges included 32 for stealing and 10 burglary charges. Sen. Sgt Boryczewski said the operation was targeting burglary, stealing and stealing motor vehicles, but breaching violence restraining orders, damage, disorderly conduct and assault charges were also laid. Describing the details of one incident, Sen. Sgt Boryczewski said he would allege a group of juveniles committed a burglary on Francis Street in Geraldton on Sunday, February 19. “Due to the vigilance of a member of the public the (alleged) offence was captured on camera and immediately reported to the police,” he said. Sen. Sgt Boryczewski said police “immediately” attended and found eight juveniles a short time later. All were arrested and charged with burglary and stealing. Their court date is yet to be advised. “Geraldton police will continue to vigorously target those people who wish to affect the amenity of the community and call for members of the public to continue to report any suspicious activity,” he said. “Police would ask residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity, ensure doors and windows are locked, don’t leave valuable items unattended and don’t leave key in cars.” Geraldton police said they would continue to maintain a strong presence along the foreshore and shopping centres and invited people to stop and have a chat.
