The Geraldton Regional Hospital Auxiliary launched its annual Christmas raffle this week, with hundreds of dollars worth of hampers up for grabs, with money raised injected back into the local hospital. People can support their local hospital by purchasing a $2 raffle ticket between 8am-1.30pm at the Hospital Auxiliary and go into the draw to win one of 14 hampers donated by local businesses. The first prize is a Bunnings pizza oven and accessories, plus a Christmas inspired hamper. Gift vouchers from surf, clothing and furniture stores are also included in the bundles. Auxiliary president Jean Murphy said they hoped to finish the year with a new record after last year’s raffle raised more than $3800. She thanked the local community for their support. “We can’t do it without the support of our local businesses,” she said. “Bunnings have again donated the pizza oven, all the local business that come on board, we need their support to do this.” All funds raised go towards medical equipment and providing better facilities for staff and patients. So far, the not-for-profit organisation has raised almost $1.8 million for the hospital. Ms Murphy said there could always be more funding. “I think the hospital needs to get more funding. I know they’re very strictly limited as to what they budget for so any way we can help out we’ll do it,” she said. Businesses supporting the raffle include Rigters IGA, Getaway Outdoors, Living Emporium, Optimal Pharmacy, Corner Surf, Willocks Surf, Mitchell and Brown, Orana Cinemas, Coles, Kmart, Blooms Chemist and Jungle News. The raffle will be drawn on Friday, December 15. Tickets are $2 or 3 for $5.
