Jamie-Lee Raelene Brockman: Geraldton woman jailed for conspiring to sell 20 ounces of meth with partner

A Geraldton woman who conspired with her incarcerated partner to buy and sell 20 ounces of methylamphetamine has been jailed for more than two years. Jamie-Lee Raelene Brockman, 33, appeared in Geraldton District Court on Monday, where she was sentenced on a charge of possession of a trafficable quantity of methylamphetamine with intent to sell or supply. She had previously pleaded guilty to the charge on June 10. The 33-year-old regularly visited her incarcerated partner in prison, who was a drug dealer. A listening device installed in the visiting area captured conversations between the couple which involved Brockman selling methylamphetamine on behalf of her partner and dealing with the proceeds of sales. In those conversations, Brockman and her partner conspired to obtain 20 ounces of methylamphetamine — worth about $240,000 — which she was going to sell to raise funds. The court was told police raided Brockman’s home and found clip seal bags, digital scales and disposable gloves. She was charged in relation to the findings. Brockman never went ahead with obtaining the methylamphetamine, but she was charged after a review of the audio. Defence lawyer Justine Fisher said Brockman had a background marred by abuse “on every level” and had a difficult and isolated upbringing where substance use was normalised. Ms Fisher said she had condoned domestic violence and behaviours in the relationship because of a lack of self-esteem and boundary setting. State prosecutor Leslie Gabriel said Brockman was motivated to raise money to support herself and pay bills, but accepted her deprived upbringing and violent relationship reduced her moral capabilities. Judge Genevieve Cleary found that while Brockman’s partner was the organiser of the drug enterprise, Brockman was trusted to control and move the drugs and was “deliberately participating in a large organisation”. But she took into account how Brockman’s upbringing normalised the control her partner had over her. “You had the knowledge of the potential harm … and the profits that could be made from that harm in the community,” she said. Brockman was sentenced to two years and four months imprisonment with parole eligibility. She was declared a drug trafficker.
