Major crash investigation officers arrive in Albany as investigations into Spencer Park fatal incident begin

Major crash investigators have arrived on the scene of a fatal incident in Spencer Park, after a woman was killed on Wednesday night. Emergency services responded to reports of an injured woman on Hardie Road in Albany’s Spencer Park at about 8pm on Wednesday night, arriving on the scene to find the 57-year-old with critical injuries and commencing emergency first aid. St John WA transported the woman to Albany Health Campus under lights and sirens, however she succumbed to her injuries and died in hospital a short time later. It is understood the woman was hit by a car, however police have not yet confirmed whether a driver has been found. Major crash investigators focused on a section of road near to the Spencer Park Shopping Centre, opposite the turn off onto Mokare Road, taking photographs up and down the road and speaking to local officers who remained on scene. Hardie Road, between Angove and Dickson Street, and Mokare Road, between Burville Street and Hardie Street, remained closed on Thursday while investigations continued. The death marks the second fatal crash in the Great Southern in three days, with a 45-year-old man killed in a head-on collision near Gnowangerup on Tuesday. WA’s road death toll for 2025 has now reached a decade-high 113 as of Thursday morning, with a horror sequence of recent road deaths pushing the year’s total even higher in a tragic start to the July school holiday period.
