MBA honours Geraldton builder’s work
The Master Builders Association has named Geraldton builder Peter Willoughby as Regional Member of the Year.
A spokesman said the award recognised a regional volunteer who had made an extraordinary contribution to the Master Builders Association over the past 12 months.
“It’s tremendous after all those years to get something like this,” Mr Willoughby said. “It’ll show people there is still work happening in Geraldton and give them confidence to continue to invest in building.”
MBA Mid West regional manager Paul Kerr said Mr Willoughby had provided invaluable assistance, support and leadership to himself and previous regional manager Di Gilleland, the regional committee, and outgoing chairman.
“Peter is a tireless volunteer who never complains and is always one of the first to volunteer his time, Mr Kerr said.
“He is highly respected in the industry and local community and very deserving of this award.
“I really enjoy working with Peter as he is always enthusiastic, rarely misses a meeting and freely gives his time to assist wherever possible.”
The association issued a statement saying Mr Willoughby was the unanimous choice of Master Builders’ regional staff across the whole of WA and thoroughly deserved the accolade.
Mr Willoughby said he was surprised to receive the award because many volunteers had contributed a lot to the association.
“I am humbled to be acknowledged with this award as I really enjoy just helping out without making a fuss,” Mr Willoughby said.
“As a membership-based organisation, I would encourage more builders, subcontractors and suppliers to get involved since it is very rewarding.”
MBA past president and life member Dan Perkins presented the award at the association’s sundowner on December 13 at Perth’s Optus Stadium, in front of more than 200 members and guests.
Mr Willoughby is Willoughby Constructions’ managing director.
