Mid West Cat Shelter hold Super Adoption Saturday at Geraldton Sanford Vets with over 50 kittens to be rehomed

More than 50 kittens and cats will be looking for their fur-ever home next weekend during a super adoption Saturday event run by a local rescue group. The Mid West Cat Shelter is looking after 54 Kittens and 10 adult cats, with co-ordinator Maria Hutchins saying the rental crisis has had an impact on surrenders, but this time of year was also a busy period for new litters. “We have more surrenders because of rentals and stuff like that. We’ve definitely lost foster carers because of giving up rooms to children, but this time of year is our busy time of the year. We don’t have that many adults, people just need to get their kittens sterilised,” she said. “In comparison, we’ve got more this year, but when I started years ago there were over 100 but there was less marketing.” The super adoption Saturday will be held on March 11 at the Sanford Veterinary Clinic between 1 and 3pm. Raffle prizes, Big Softy ice creams and cuddles with kittens will be available on the day. Ms Hutchins said they were always looking for foster carers, and urged people to attend the event to adopt, get information or just to look at the animals. “You pay a membership fee of $25 a year, you need a space for the kittens and give them love before they get homed,” she said. “It doesn’t take much, we provide everything.” Meanwhile, three vet nurses will shave their heads at the event to fundraise for the Worlds Greatest Shave. Ms Hutchins said the vet nurses would go completely bald at 1pm in the car park area while the adoption day will run inside the clinic.
